"Those Who Hope in the Lord"
Dear Friends,
Greetings to you all in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
There is a beautiful story about an elderly farmer who planted an oak tree beside his small home. A passerby smiled and asked, "Why are you planting this tree? It will take many years before it gives shade, and you may never live to enjoy it."
The old man gently replied, "I have enjoyed the shade of trees that others planted before me. Today I plant this tree in hope, trusting that someone after me will rest beneath its branches."
That simple act reminds us that hope is not merely waiting for better days; it is trusting God's promises and continuing to do good, even when we cannot immediately see the results. Therefore, hope looks beyond today's difficulties and trusts that God is preparing tomorrow's blessings.
The prophet Isaiah reminds us of this enduring hope:
"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31)
Isaiah spoke these words to the people of Israel during a season of uncertainty and discouragement. They had experienced suffering, displacement, and disappointment, and many questioned whether God had forgotten them. Yet through the prophet Isaiah, the Lord assured them that His power never diminishes and His promises never fail. As human strength fades, God's strength remains everlasting. Those who place their trust in Him receive renewed courage, wisdom, and endurance for every season of life.
This promise continues to encourage us today. Many of us carry unseen burdens—family responsibilities, health concerns, financial pressures, and uncertainty about the future. At times we may feel weary and exhausted. Even so, our God remains faithful. When we wait upon Him with faith and perseverance, He renews our strength and enables us to continue our journey with confidence. His grace is sufficient, His mercy is new every morning, and His presence never leaves His children.
This month also gives us a wonderful opportunity to honour those who have faithfully walked with the Lord for many years. On the Fourth Sunday of August, our congregation will celebrate a Senior Members' Participatory Service. We thank God for the lives, prayers, wisdom, and steadfast witness of our senior members. Like the elderly farmer who planted the oak tree, they have sown seeds of faith through their prayers, sacrifices, and faithful service. Today, we enjoy the spiritual blessings that many of them have nurtured over the years. Their lives remind us that a faithful walk with God leaves a lasting legacy for future generations.
I warmly invite every member of the London Tamil Christian Congregation—children, youth, adults, and families—to join us for this special service on the Fourth Sunday of August. Let us come together to worship God, honour our senior members, and celebrate His faithfulness in every generation. Your presence will greatly encourage them and bless our church family.
As we enter this new month, let us renew our hope in the Lord, encourage those around us, and continue to serve Him with joyful hearts. In this spirit, may our lives reflect His love, and may His peace strengthen us to be faithful witnesses wherever He has placed us.
May the Lord bless each one of us abundantly throughout this month. Amen.
