Greetings to you all in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
At the beginning of the 20th century in the United States, Black Americans struggled and protested for equal rights and social justice. Charles R. Smith, a poet and photographer, used Langston Hughes’ song “My People” to inspire and empower those participating in these protests. This song “My People” had a significant impact among those fighting for their rights.
Similarly, in Jeremiah 31:14, "The Lord declares, 'My people will be satisfied with My goodness.'” In this verse, God calls the people of Israel 'My People' and promises their future restoration after a period of suffering and exile. The Book of Jeremiah is set during a turbulent period in Judah's history. The Israelites experienced significant hardships, including the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple, and many were taken into exile in Babylon. In this context, God speaks through the prophet Jeremiah to offer a message of hope and restoration. He promises to bring the Israelites back to their land, rebuild their communities, and renew their covenant with Him. Also, God’s promise to "fill His people with goodness" emphasizes the future prosperity and blessings that will come to the nation. It signifies the end of their suffering and the beginning of a time of plenty and divine favour. God promises to fill His people with His goodness and blessings, implying a holistic sense of well-being, including material, spiritual, and emotional abundance. This promise, coming directly from God, emphasizes His divine authority and certainty.
Even today, the Lord calls us 'My people,' showing the abundant love and grace He has for us. He will provide all goodness from His heavenly treasure and make this month and season a blessed one.
As we reflect on God's promises and His abundant goodness, let us remember our mission to share His love and blessings with others. This August, let us commit to being vessels of His goodness, reaching out to those in need, and working towards the restoration and healing of our communities. Just as God promised to restore and bless the people of Israel, He calls us to be agents of His peace and love in the world today. With such a thought of mission, come and celebrate the Special Sunday of World Mission on 25th August at Rivercourt Methodist Church, Hammersmith. Let God bless each one of us. Amen.
In Christ's love,
