Dear Friends,
Greetings in the name of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Late in the 1900s, an English magazine in Northern England posed an interesting question to its readers: "What is the shortest route from the North of England to London?" Responses flooded in, each suggesting different routes through various cities. Yet, one reader offered a simple but profound answer: "The shortest route to London is a good company." Indeed, this is true. A good company makes any journey smoother and more comfortable, making the distance seem less daunting.
In the same way, the Lord encouraged Joshua as he prepared to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. In Joshua 1:1-9, we see Joshua, uncertain and facing immense responsibility, being reassured by God: "Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." God promises Joshua success, contingent upon his obedience to the Law given to Moses. This command to "be strong and courageous" is repeated several times, underscoring the vital role of faith and obedience in overcoming fear and doubt. And indeed, God fulfilled His promise to Joshua.
Like Joshua, we too encounter struggles and challenges in our life's journey. During such times, we may feel overwhelmed, worried, or afraid. Yet, God’s message to us remains the same: "Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened, for the Lord your God is with you." Just as God was with Joshua, He is with us as a good companion in our life journey. So, let us hold fast to His hand and face our challenges with courage and faith.
As we enter this new season, it is also a time when many of our children are embarking on a new academic year. For them, this period can be filled with both excitement and anxiety as they step into new classrooms, meet new teachers, and face new academic challenges. Just as God was with Joshua, guiding him through uncharted territory, so too will He be with our Children. We pray that they may draw strength and courage from God’s presence, knowing that He walks with them through every lesson, every test, and every new experience. May they be reminded that they are never alone and that with God’s guidance, they can overcome any obstacle and achieve great success.
This month, as we prepare to celebrate Harvest Sunday on 22nd September, let us thank God for His wonderful creation. We are called to renew our commitment, given in the Garden of Eden, to protect and care for nature. Let us gather together to thank the Triune God for the abundant blessings He has bestowed upon us through His creation and to renew our dedication to preserving this precious gift for future generations. As we do so, let us also remember those in need, sharing our blessings with them. In particular, we offer our Harvest gifts to the homeless through the Rivercourt Methodist Church Homeless Project. Let us bring our offerings with hearts full of gratitude and humility, and receive abundant blessings from God. May God bless you all.
In Christ's love,
