Monthly Letter to the London Tamil Christian Congregation
Dear Friends,
Greetings to you all in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
First and foremost, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for the warm welcome I have received as your new minister. It is a blessing to join this traditional congregation, and I look forward to journeying together in faith and service.
As we begin this new chapter, I want to take a moment to honour and thank Rev. Jessie Anand for her dedicated ministry from 2008. Her steadfast leadership and compassionate service have greatly blessed our congregation. We are deeply grateful for her contributions and pray for God's continued guidance and blessings upon her family.
This month, I have been deeply moved by the life story of Scottish minister George Matheson. George's life took an unexpected turn when he lost his eyesight at the age of 17 while studying at Glasgow University. This profound change brought about numerous challenges: his friends distanced themselves, and the woman he was about to marry abandoned him. His world was turned upside down, leading him into deep depression. However, amid his despair, George gave himself into the hands of the Lord and found a new life. He was comforted by the words from Deuteronomy 33:27, "The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." This verse reassured him of God's unfailing support and presence.
Later, George ministered throughout Scotland, becoming famously known as "the blind preacher." In 1885, he was invited by Queen Victoria herself and he delivered a sermon entitled “The Patience of Job.” The Queen was so moved by his sermon that it became a memorable event. The eternal God transformed George's life from uncertainty to purpose, demonstrating His power and unchanging nature.
In this new month, our Saviour extends the same comforting words to us. The term "Eternal God" signifies that our God exists without end; He is the "Unchanging God." In a world filled with constant changes and uncertainties, where circumstances shift rapidly and the future may seem daunting, we can find comfort in knowing that our God is eternal and unchanging. Yesterday, today, and forever, He remains the same. Let us hold tightly to this eternal God, confident that He will never forsake us.
In line with this theme, I am excited to announce the Senior Members Participatory Service on the 28th of this month. This special service will celebrate the wisdom, faith, and contributions of our senior members, acknowledging their vital role in our church community. It will be a wonderful opportunity for all of us to come together, express our appreciation, and draw inspiration from their enduring faith.
Additionally, I am pleased to announce that our "Fun Day" is scheduled for 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 20th, at South Harrow, HA2 9ER. Please promote this event and encourage participation to ensure a fun and successful day. Let's support our youth leader, Thushani Rajakumar, to make this Fun Day a great success.
I encourage everyone to participate and support these meaningful events. Let us come together as one family, honouring our elders and strengthening the bonds of our fellowship.
May the Lord bless you and keep you in His perfect peace.
In Christ's love,
Rev. Prasad Vasanthakumar
Minister, London Tamil Christian Congregation
